THE FALL OF THE REBEL ANGELS
Painted By: Pieter Bruegel the Elder
Entry 1
I was amazed by this work of Pieter Bruegel the Elder, A Flemish Renaissance painter. According to josephineboult, a writer from arslongavitabreve.com, this painting was an illustration of a specific passage in the book of Revelation. The passage came from Rev 12:7-9 "Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels waged war upon the dragon."
The painting is made using an oil-on-panel. At the present time, the painting is located inside the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, Brussels. There are different significant aspects that we can see on the painting. I will show pictures of every significant character on the painting to help us dig the meaning of it.
The Good Angel
The Half Human Half Monsters
The Archangel Michael
The Fighting Rebels
The Monstrous Demons
The Fallen Angels
All of these are included in the painting, and each of them has a meaning. In my opinion, the painting focuses on the battle between good and evil, angels and demons. The fallen angel are the traitors and the rebels of the heaven. St. Michael, the archangel, is the leader of the good angels in the battle in Heaven.
I can consider this as an art because of its meaning and form. We can determine the figure representation of this as a war. The content of the painting are the soldiers of the good and evil, also it shows that those are good will always win in every war. At present time, we could see that this is happening in some areas. Not literally we could see angels and demons but we could see that there is a war. War between countries, war between religions, war between politics, and even war against ourselves.
